Stroll along the Devonport waterfront, from charming Devonport village to Torpedo Bay Reserve. The footpath along the King Edward Parade is flat and great for prams or scooters. Start at the Devonport ferry building (a 12-minute ferry ride from the city centre). Check out the architecturally acclaimed Devonport Library. There's a children's playground on the Devonport waterfront and some great local options for an ice-cream or coffee stop. The village is home to a collection of cafes, art galleries, quaint shops and the Vic Theatre. Stroll along King Edward Parade and admire the pōhutukawa trees planted to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII.There are plenty of places to stop along the way to check out the passing ferries and views of the beach, Auckland cityscape, Hauraki Gulf islands and Maungauika (North Head). You'll find a second, smaller children's playground towards the end of the path at Devonport Domain. The path ends at Torpedo Bay, where you can walk out to the end of the wharf to admire the view. Devonport has been a naval base since 1841. History buffs will enjoy the Navy Museum, which celebrates Devonport's rich local history and maritime roots. There are fantastic views to Maungauika (North Head), now a Department of Conservation reserve. Maungauika has a fascinating history, first as a Māori settlement, and then as a coastal fortification from 1870 to the end of WWII.Public toilets are available at various points along the route. PROPOSED - Town Belt Cycleway - Missing Link

OPEN

Easiest

1 m

37m

This trail is proposed and subject to change. This trail has not reached construction stage, there is a possibility that this could be part of a future advanced cycling network in and around Cambridge. There are plans for the Town Belt Cycleway to connect the Northern and Southern suburbs of Cambridge, through this "missing link." These plans have been delayed due to the pipe bridge reconstruction. Meetings with the local council included that there should be a cycle path on top of the new bridge as a vital link between the residential areas and the rest of the greenbelt. That was cancelled due to being too expensive and the new bridge was built to only withstand the weight of the pipe, and no path, therefore the "missing link" plans have been significantly delayed.
