Best Mountain Bike Trails in Maraetai Forest
Maraetai Forest on the beautiful Pohutukawa Coast delivers a mix of flow trails and technical terrain through regenerating native forest, with grades ranging from 2 to 5. The clay-based trails feature bermed sections, off-camber challenges, roots, and drops suitable for intermediate to expert riders, though conditions can get slippery in wet weather. Access is through the dedicated Pohutukawa Coast Bike Club, which maintains this privately-owned forest and offers both season and day passes.

A fun, flowy grade 3 descent. Careful along the top section as the downhill edge of the trail is quite exposed and the corners can catch you out - ride carefully the first time. The trail crosses boundary run half way down. Watch out for other riders where the trails merge and take the left hand fork to stay on boundary cruise. The bottom part of the trail is full of rollable jumps and bermed corners.
