The 19km Omokoroa to Wairoa Bridge Cycleway offers a moderately challenging coastal ride connecting the Omokoroa peninsula township with Tauranga, featuring stunning harbour views and abundant wildlife spotting opportunities. The route combines off-road trails with on-road segments through varied terrain with mix of pine and native vegetation. While generally suitable for most ages and abilities, sections include riding on 80kph roads, making it most appropriate for older children and experienced riders.

Section 10/11 - Bridge 3 to Newnham Road

Section 11 (COMPLETED)Length - 500mConstruction type - Compacted metal & chip-sealThis section runs from the south end of bridge 3, beside the railway embankment to the unformed end of Newnham Road before connecting to the formed and sealed portion of Newnham Road. There is an off-road grass carpark at the end of Newnham Road. Ultra-Fast Fibre and future power supply infrastructure has been installed along this section to supply future needs for growing communities. A "boulevard" of flowering cherry trees and some fruit trees has also been planted along the route to enhance this section in the years to come. Further trees and plantings are planned.

Section 1 (COMPLETE)Length 2050mConstruction type - on-road and existing gravel track, some timber boardwalk The Omokoroa to Tauranga walkway/cycleway commences at the south end of The Esplanade, near the picturesque Omokoroa Beach. It runs along an existing track via Cooney Reserve to Tinopai Reserve which includes a recently completed boardwalk and widened gravel path.

Section 6 - Bridge 1 to Huharua Park

Section 6 (COMPLETED )Length - 760mConstruction type - Compacted metal and concrete pathStarting at the southern end of the new bridge, section 6 follows the harbour's edge and esplanade reserve until it reaches Huharua Park, Plummers Point.Construction (nearly complete) has included cutting a new bench-line through the steeper ground in front of the Pats Lane community to provide a more gentle gradient through this section as well as provide some screening to the close residential properties. Surplus earth removed has been used to help form the trail along this stretch of shoreline.The small bridge installed to link the esplanade reserve with Huharua Park has been temporarily removed for erosion repairs and will be reinstalled once the trail is ready to open.Construction is expected to be completed between April and June 2019 but won't be officially opened until Section 4 has been finished.

Section 7 (COMPLETE)Length - 570mConstruction type - Existing concrete pathPublic toilets availableOwned jointly by Western Bay and Tauranga City councils, Huharua Park was purchased as a passive harbourside reserve for the enjoyment of public in the wider sub region of Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty.Located within the Western Bay District, the park falls under the administration of our Council as the lead authority. Tangata Whenua, Pirirakau Hapu, has played a major role in the development of Huharua Park from Council's initial purchase in 2004 to their ongoing involvement including the Marae DIY project in 2010.
