A good alternative to following the rail trail to Alexandra is to leave Clyde Rail head and ride down into the township of Clyde. Explore the old Township with its historical buildings on the main street and Power Dam just behind the town. Cross the bridge and follow the signs leading to the Millennium walking/ cycling track. The millennium trail is a very scenic trail that follows the true right of the Clutha Matu-Au River for a distance of 13 km, passing the Earnscleugh Tailings Historic Reserve en route to the Alexandra Bridge. This popular walking/jogging track can make a pleasant ride on its own either by returning on the same trail or combining it with the Alexandra Clyde rail trail section. It is a mainly flat single track with small undulations, a good surface, some boardwalks and bridges, staying pretty much within 20 meters of the river all the way. As previously stated it is very popular so watch out for other users on corners.

The ride ends at the jetty where you will be picked up the boat if you are continuing down river. Otherwise, turn around and head back the same way.

Skoolies

OPEN

Intermediate

Used by the DHSS and Linger & Die for race events. Skoolies is unfortunately not sign written so in order to get on the right trail its best to have a tour guild or of course just use Trailforks.com Skoolies is somewhere between "Intermediate" and "Very Difficult" So its recommended to walk the track before thundering down! The trail features rocks, roots, berms and some fair gradients. Loads of pedaling at the top so I hope your feeling fit!
