About the pathGreat family-friendly walk or ride along the water's edge, through parks and bush trails. The route loops around the beautiful Ōrewa estuary, exploring the natural and historical significance of the area.Enjoy estuary views while spotting wildlife, paddle boarders and kite surfers. The path features Māori carvings and tributes to the estuary's past as a significant food gathering place for Māori.The wide path is mainly flat and sealed, so it is suitable for all fitness levels. It's an excellent ride for people new to cycling, or riding with children on bikes or scooters.Start the path at Western Reserve on Hibiscus Coast Highway, 40 minutes drive north of central Auckland. Here you'll find parking, along with public toilets and drinking water. The path is also easy to access by riding in from surrounding suburbs.At the start of the path you'll pass the Estuary Arts Centre (take in some culture or pop in for a coffee) and the Ōrewa Skate Park, one of the best designed skate parks in New Zealand. It's great for skateboarders, scooters and bikers of all ages and abilities.Mid-way along the path, the new suburb of Millwater offers pleasant views, public toilets and plenty of cafes and lunch options for a bite to eat.Te Ara Tahuna Pathway makes for a great day out, especially if combined with time at the nearby Ōrewa beach, shops and restaurants.This popular path can get busy on the weekend - so remember to share the path and ring your bell before passing.Facilities Playground Public artwork Public toilet Skate park Sports fieldSource: Auckland Council
