No Brains Mountain Bike Trail

The No Brains trail was re-established in May 2023, post harvesting being completed. No Brains starts at the top of Kakapiko Summit, under the comms tower. To get there it is an earnest climb up Lookout road flanked by fabulous views.No Brains is a hand-built trail, which has many amazing volunteer hours crafting the 4km of single-track.From the top enjoy the view, over the Horohoro bluffs, Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tarawera and look down on Green lake (Rotokakahi). The trail starts through the gap in the fence, and into the first section through mature pines crossing 4wd tracks and Lookout Road. It then breaks cover with a spectacular view out over Lake Rotorua, Red Stag Sawmill and Rotorua city. It now gets a bit more spicey with a steep-ish downhill section into several large dropping corners, technical rocky sections and berms. It is not all downhill however, the trail continues like a variable roller coaster with sustainable climbs, with a couple of pinches and flowy downhills towards the end.No Brains has a ¾ way exit across 8 Mile Gate Road linking to the Taura trail and String Road or continue and do the full No Brains all the way to Sandstone Road.
