Best Mountain Bike Trails in Uenuku Pines MTB Park

Located in Waikune Forest at the base of Mt Ruapehu near National Park village, Uenuku Pines is the first MTB park in the Ruapehu region built and maintained by the Ruapehu MTB Club. The park features a growing network of grade 2-5 trails with recent additions including technical lines like Boost, Dropper, and Waterfall Express, with affordable membership and day-pass options.

Bent Spokes is a single track trail that traverses across the hill side below Rake Head. The trail has sections of off camber and exposed roots, and narrow sections between trees.

Boost is downhill trail that starts off with a step down into a series of corners and jumps before diving into the native bush and douglas fir trees. Features along Boost have ride around options.

A popular trail to session, fun small-medium size jumps at the top of Cog Wild that lead into a nice cruise through the young pines to the lower half of Cog Wild. In the lower half of the trail there are a couple berms and jumps, the trail leads out to the main trail junction of Boost/Crank/Rakehead/Cog Wild. All features have a ride around option and this trail can be ridden in both directions but is primary downhill.

Entrance gap jump feature on Crank has a ride around option, as well as the jumps at the bottom. Crank is a nice winding trail through the young pines. At the trail intersection at the bottom of Crank you can keep right and go into a jump section or keep left and return to the midway point of Rake Head.

Dropper has been rebuilt in 2023, and the OG drop still remains after logging This trail has some of the more advance features in Uenuku Pines MTB Park. Always ride within your ability level and scope out features before riding! There are ride around options along the features on this trail but caution is needed and a few steeper sections between features.

High Flyer is our newest advance jump trail at Uenuku Pines MTB Park. This trail has multiple jumps ranging between step downs, step up and gap jumps. Advance jumping skills are required on this trail, there are no ride around options after the first two jumps on this trail. Please ride within your ability level, check out features before riding and respect the trail / features (take offs and landings).

Loose Chain was built in early 2023 and is a pump track inspired trail. A good trail at Uenuku Pines MTB Park to lap multiple times to learn and practice basic pumping and jump skills. Cruise down Loose Chain and keep both wheels on the ground or have fun on the smaller jumps and rolls, a few sections of small rolls that can be doubled.

Rake Head is the main access trail from Ye Old Mill Road Carpark and Ye Old Mill trail to the rest of the trail network, in December 2023 Rake Head has been extended from the top of Boost to the top of Loose Chain.

Rake Head is the main access trail for riders to use to access trails from Ye Old Mill Carpark/Ye Old Mill Road trail. There are a couple sections of trail that have switchback corners. This trail can be ridden in both directions and is the easiest trail option to connect back to Ye Old Mill Road (instead of riding down Boost, Ball Bearings, Dropper or Bent Spokes)
