Mountain Bike Trails in The Tukituki Trail

The Tuki Tuki Trail is a network of trails in Central Hawke's Bay between Waipukurau and Waipawa that offers scenic cycling alongside limestone paths in the Tukituki River berm with mostly flat terrain engineered with obstacles including sharp banked turns, small bridges, and jumps for varied rider experience. The grade 2 track weaves through willow trees and includes a swing-bridge river crossing, connecting to the nearby Gum Tree Farm Mountain Bike Park with 20 kilometres of trails across 14 routes from easy to advanced.

Ashcott Lime Loop

The Ashcott Loop is 20km predominantly lime sand. Easy riding or walking Trail. Runs parallel to the beautiful Tukituki & Tukipo Rivers Can be started at a variety of starting points. Passes past Lindsay Bush a native forest Reserve and the Lindsay Water Race Tunnel. Passes past a variety of farmland displaying a variety of seasonal ag activities.

This trail is single track within the river berm which runs on true left of Tukituki River from Waipukurau road bridge down stream to Swing Bridge. This trail links to all the other trail network in the Tukituki river berm. Runs parallel to the Limestone West Trail and has access to this trail at various points along its route.

Easy Contour Single out & back track. Weaves along beside Tukituki River from north side of Waipukurau Bridge to Lindsay Bush and onto Black Creek. Key destination features are Lindsay Bush an unspoilt NZ native tree reserve and at the end of the trail at Black Creek access to the historical limestone water race tunnel.

Gabriel’s Gully Gabriels Gully is a flowing bermed with jumps trail but very easy to ride Grade 3 downhill single track. All down hill finishing at the bottom of the park and the start of “Murph’s Lap of the Gods”.

This trail is compacted limestone which provides a wveryy smooth riding surface on top of the Tukituki River Stop bank. Runs on the Waipukurau side of river from Russell Park to the culvert joining onto Mt Herbert Road. Can form part of an easy ride loop along this trail and return to Waipukurau township via Mt Herbert Road. Very smooth riding surface suited to all types of bikes (including road bikes) and all ages and abilities. Trail is popular with walkers and people on mobility scooters. Immediately beside and running parallel to this trail is an easy single mtn bike trail in the river berm (see Culvert Trail) which provides an alternative riding option in very close proximity.

Easy Limestone path running from Waipukurau on true left of the Tukituki River. Creates the loop via the swing bridge to limestone trail on true right of the Tukituki River. Provides great rural views and experience looking at the seasonal farming activities. Provides access from the Waipawa end to the Gum Tree farm Mtn Bike park via the swing bridge.

LINDSAY BUSHThis trail suited to hybrid bikes and mtn bikes. Commences on north side of Waipukurau bridge and runs south up river. The first kilometre is a wide dirt track which then leads onto the stopbank with a gravel surface. Trail leads to Lindsay Bush then onto Black Creek. Stop to walk through the native bush reserve. Take some worms to feed the trout in Black creek and then visit the limestone Water Race Tunnel. Single track mtn bike trail runs parallel to this to give an alternative riding option.

Easy up hill climb to a nice flowing downhill trail. At the top midpoint there is a dam with trails going of to the right (TT, Hams Hoppa & Mars Bar) slightly further on is Staircase which takes you to the Sheep Yards where a number of the downhill trails start. (Camino-Gt, Gabriel's Gully, Jimmy Riddle, Reesies Rippa)
