The trail starts from Flora Car Park. The first section is an easy wide track that narrows as you go. After the first swing bridge it becomes a grade 4. Narrow, steep dropoffs, rooty and slippery when wet. Many blown-out corners require bikes to be carried or walked. After Barron flat it becomes a grade 3, pretty grown over and trees down. The last part is a gravel road under the powerlines. A massive iron gate has to be passed then you are on the 4WD track that leads down to Takaka. It's an 8 km steep descent with lots of loose gravel and small rocks. Take care of oncoming traffic.
