An excellent little trail that has a mix of 4x4 gravel track, native forest, stream crossings, pine forest. A very pleasant ride and a don't miss if you stay at the campsite. The 1st section of this track is dual direction along the gravel track but once it gets in to the bush, it becomes single direction.

Screeching Kākā

Screeching Kākā is a flowing singletrack trail, that gives a fun downhill run after a short climb at the start. The trail begins with a gentle climb of around 14m over the first 140m, gaining a little elevation before the trail tips over and becomes a flowing descent through the pine forest. From there it drops 63m over the remaining trail, creating a gravity-biased ride with plenty of momentum. Shaped mostly by hand, the trail follows the natural contours of the hillside to create a smooth and natural-feeling line. Riders will find a mix of flowing bermed corners and sections with a slalom-style feel, weaving between the trees and encouraging a playful side-to-side flow. Along the way there are also several steeper roll-downs and drop-offs where the trail tips over the natural terrain, adding a bit of spice and keeping things interesting as you descend. The trail gets its name from the resident kākā that frequent the area. These native parrots are especially active around dawn and dusk and their loud screeching calls regularly echoed through the forest while the trail was being built — sometimes from the trees directly overhead.

This trail consists of mostly down hill with just a couple of short easy climbs. The trail winds its way down through pine and regenerating native with a few low level technical sections. It also has a few small drops and jumps with most having a bypass around it but not all. At the bottom of to hill, there is a creek crossing but there is a good amount of rocks to hop over to keep your feet dry. Last bit is a short climb back to meet Kim's trail and Short Hauler entrance.

17h 28m

This trail heads up through old pine forest on a short section of clay track that is extremely difficult to ride up in the wet. It works its way up into a native bush ridge with some technical riding along it. There are plenty of tree roots to pop over along the way. The trail then drops off the ridge down a very step section and heads down through a windy, tight and very technical trail to the top skid site of the Happy days trail.
