Mountain Bike Trails in Hanmer Forest Park

Hanmer Forest Park in Canterbury near Christchurch is a world-renowned mountain biking destination with an extensive network of trails suitable for all skill levels. The park features smooth flowing single-track alongside technical sections and scenic descents, with popular trails including Swamp Track, Tombstone, Perseverance, and Flax Gulley. Located at 385 metres elevation, the park includes a Skills Park and Pump Track for skill development, plus heritage forest trails for families. The 13,000-hectare forest park managed by DOC combines native bush with exotic forest and offers stunning views across the Hanmer Basin.

This is the main loop around the Heritage Forest MTB area south of Jollies Pass Road. Easy Rider is well sign posted and loops around most of the Heritage Forest. A mixture of forest roads and easy winding beginners single track. Good track for families and kids who are competent riders from five and up usually love this track, though bikes with gears make it a lot more fun Once ridden you will find yourself going around again and again! Links nicely to Snakes & Ladders Trail or Perseverance Trail and Southern Cross. Trails are mostly hand built by the Hanmer MTB Club. Can be used as a climb from the village from Lucas Lane using the first section of CV Express and turning right at the Forest Road. Or a nice downhill along the single track followed by the forest road. From the skidder pad at the top end you can get access to a variety of trails. Or from the cross over with CV Express head uphill on CV Express. Conical Hill Climb and down Eagles nest. Or turn down Swoop. Head left and up a short steep section to get access to downhill switchback heaven on Yankee Zephyr. Also intersects with Tank Track Trails are mostly hand built by the Hanmer MTB Club.
