Description
The first track built at Makara Peak. It starts off as a narrow and technical traverse that heads south along the rocky Makara Peak ridgeline. It involves some lung busting pinch climbs with varying degrees of traction, followed by technical and rocky downhill chutes with multiple lines. You can skip this section by riding to the high point on Peak Flow and turning left up an equally steep connector trail.Once you're off the ridgeline, the trail heads steeply downhill via a rutted and bone-rattling rocky section of trail that features a series of tight and technical corners and chutes. An absolute Wellington classic.Built by Mountain Bike volunteers in 1998. Two long deviations were built in 2001 to lessen the gradient. Originally it was built through farmland, which is now regenerating native bush thanks to the efforts of volunteers who have planted and tended to thousands of seedlings over the years. At the end of the trail, head down Starfish which includes a couple of grade 5 optional features and lines, head over to Lower Pohatu for some faster singletrack, or back up Snakecharmer for another lap.
