Description
Do not attempt this trail without backcountry experience. Very challenging hiking and mountain bike track can be tackled both directions. Being primarily a tramping track much of this trail is hike-a-bike and not an easy push. Very tight trees and corners with many steep ascents and descents with slips, fallen trees and stream-gully crossings. Markers can be difficult to follow in several places. Although DoC advises the time required is around 5 hours the actual time could be double. There are shelters at both ends. Leaving from the Scotts Road parking lot at the top of Arapuke Bike Park, Burttons Track forks off about 1.5 km down Scotts Road and forms part of the Te Araroa walking trail. End by going down Tokomaru River Road and Mangahao Road to Shannon.
