Description

42 Traverse Track partially closedThe 42 Traverse is partially closed due to an active slip that has washed out a 150 m section of the track. The slip is located between the turn off to Top/Clymo Track and the turnoff to Waione/Cokers Track: Map of the 42 Traverse Track closure (PDF, 3,119K). Coordinates: E1815764 N5683154 and E1815854 N5683059.Investigations into track stability are ongoing and we will provide updates as the situation progresses. The remainder of the 42 Traverse is open. Top/Clymo Track and Ten Man Hut are accessible from Ohinetonga Reserve, and Waione/Cokers Track is accessible from Kapoors Road. Due to the partial closure, the 42 Traverse is not operational as a full end-to-end experience.First published on 28 November 2022. Last reviewed on 8 December 2022.This ride is a vehicle track off state highway 47 to Owhango. Despite being vehicle track it is rutted and gnarled enough to entertain experienced riders. Can be extremely muddy to the point of gumming up gears. The river crossings provide opportunities for un-gumming things and were ridable but over bottom bracket. It is not recommended to do this track after heavy rains as not being able to cross the river would mean a long uphill ride back. There is a pub at the end of the road in Owhango for a well deserved beer.It is recommended to take a topomap and gps/compass this is not somewhere you'd want to get lost.
