Kaka

A downhill course with some great modern era history. First raced in 2000 as a bare hill post harvesting, this course is a completely different animal now that the new pine forest is more than half way through its rotation. This course has stories to tell of the old National Series, the new NZ MTB Cup, National Champs and an Oceania Champs where our Australian visitors were gob smacked and loved it. Loamy soil is now in abundance.

6h 13m

Loam Ranger lives up to its name as it drops, literally, down through the exotic forest through a number of switchbacks, dropping corners and fast paced descents. With easy access and just being soooo damn good, will see you back around to do it all again. New trail grade in 2021.

Maitai Face (full)

OPEN

2.4 km

-946m

9h 7m

Maitai Face (full) is a steep, well made downhill track that is also trail bike friendly. It's super steep in places (over 50%). Built in pine forest it's off camber, rooty, has steep corners and is challenging. In the dry it has loads of grip - in the wet not so much. It finishes on the Maitai Valley Road opposite the golf club. The climb is not technical but hard work, worth it though. New trail grade in 2021.

This track is basically in three parts. The top third is in young pine trees and is fairly open and easy riding. Sometimes a little overgrown in places, or boggy when its wet. The middle section is down through some fir trees and is shady and good riding with a few minor technical challenges. The last section can only be described as a "Root Fest" and is a real challenge when wet. There is a bypass to avoid this section if desired. New trail grade in 2021.
