Best Mountain Bike Trails in Waitakere Ranges
The Waitakere Ranges Regional Park near Auckland offers limited but scenic mountain biking opportunities, primarily through the Beveridge Track, the only dedicated mountain bike trail in the ranges. This 12km out-and-back ride features a level gravel road following an old water pipeline, then rises steeply through regenerating native forest to the Arataki Visitors Centre, offering calm refuge and views across the Manukau Harbour and Lower Nihotupu Reservoir. While the park is renowned for its extensive walking network through native bush, mountain biking is restricted to protect the sensitive ecosystem, making it a peaceful short-ride option just 20 minutes from Auckland city.
