Te Ara Ahi (The Pathway of Fire) is a 66km Great Ride through Rotorua's geothermal wonderland, featuring easy to intermediate trails with multiple access points and shuttles. Starting from the Government Gardens, the route passes Whakarewarewa and Te Puia geothermal parks, the world-famous Redwoods Mountain Bike Park, and ends at scenic Rainbow Mountain and Lake Okaro.

The official start of New Zealand Cycle Trail - Te Ara Ahi. The trail begins at the Prince's Gates at the Government Gardens. It goes in front of the beautiful historic Rotorua Museum, Blue Baths and Polynesian Spa. It continues along the lake to the next section of thermal area and Puarenga Stream end into the lake.
