Add this on if you're feeling fit to the Whites Bay Loop Track.Starting from about 680m, the track climbs to the summit of Mt Robertson at 1036m. From the Loop Track it takes about 1 hour to get to the summit. There are a few downhills but it's mostly really hard climbing, mostly unrideable. There is a radar station at the top of Mt Robertson to let ou know you're there. The descent is great fun Expect it to be NZ Grade 5 (really really hard).

The Mt Robertson is a 20km loop track that is a scenic cross country route which demands a good level of fitness and confidence when descending.Park your car in Whites Bay, then ride back to the road and head north uphill for 3km's before turning left at the Loop Track Sign (about 50m past the crest of the hill). After 1.4km's you'll pass a pylon. Head through the gate and right to stay on the Loop Track where it narrows into single track.Expect it to take about 1 hour for the first 14km's from Whites Bay to the signposted fork at the top of the ridge where you can choose to head up Mt Robertson (about 1 hour away and mostly hard uphill riding - but great fun downhill). At this point if you don't decide to do the 'there and back' trip up Mt Robertson, the Loop Track heads south through tight singletrack. Follow the Whites Bay signs. At the end, follow the pylon track to a fork, head sharp left where you'll reach the road between Whites Bay and Rarangi. Turn left and head back to Whites Bay to your car. This descent is narrow and rough but great fun. There are a lot of tree roots so riding it in or after the rain is not advised. Due to the tree roots avoid this track in the wet or after rain.
