Historic mill track at the foot of the Tararua Ranges. A 10km single track links the road ends for two valleys via bush and a low saddle. Rideable most of the way with some boggy areas, streams and one large climb on foot. This is a nice bush ride with abundant bird life, and is one of the gateways into the Tararuas (track leads up to a hut from the loop track). It follows an old mill road, and there is a sign showing the site of a tree nursery from the 1930's near the Mikimiki Road end. Recommended to start at the Kiriwhakapapa end as the carpark and picnic area is much better provisioned than Mikimiki Road. The track is well formed with bridges, and gentle gradients, but can be a bit muddy in places after rain.

This track follows a road that was closed in the 1970's. Since then it has turned into bush and can be overgrown in places. It passes through the Waewaepa Department of Conservation scenic reserve. Great view from the top. This is a very exposed track with steep drops off the side and should not be attempted in adverse weather. On a good day it is a great ride, nearly always muddy winter or summer, reasonably technical and overgrown 4WD track but worth the trip with great views to reward your efforts. Always take a windproof jacket and long trousers and tops recommended because of a bit of stinging nettle on route. It is possible to ride right through to the other end with transport required to drive out to Dannevirke; however it is not as ride able down the other side.
