The Manawatu Gorge offers exciting intermediate-to-advanced mountain biking through native bush and diverse terrain. The scenic reserve features downhill trails like Te Ara o Mahurangi (a fast 2km descent through bush, currently closed due to slips), gravel 4WD roads, and rolling forest trails. The wider area includes over 50km of marked trails ranging from grades 2-6, with stunning views across the river gorge and surrounding farmland.

Wide gravel paths with a bit of asphalt. Several stair sections but all have runnels (wheel channels for pushing your bike up/down) or ride-arounds. Mostly open with very little shade. Only one or two side tracks to access the Pohangina river. No access to the Manawatu River but great views. Carparks at both ends. Toilets at Te Aru a Turanga (Manawatu River) carpark.
